  2. This is a special SCO Skunkware release of the Open Sound System
  3. (OSS) drivers for _Soundblaster_compatible_soundcards_only_ for
  4. SCO OpenServer (5.0.x), SCO UnixWare (2.1.1 and 2.1.2), and the
  5. SCO UnixWare Forum Beta release.  These drivers have been
  6. licensed to SCO from 4Front Technologies.

  8.     These drivers should replace the old Voxware drivers (from
  9. tls566).  The OSS drivers include many new features, including a
  10. curses-based configuration utility, autodetection of many types
  11. of cards, and support for newer Plug & Play audio cards.

  13.     If you do not have a Soundblaster-compatible audio card,
  14. these drivers will not work for you.  You can purchase drivers
  15. for other audio cards at the 4Front Technologies web site:

  19.     To install the OSS drivers, unpack the appropriate archive
  20. (oss.osr5.tar.gz for OpenServer 5.0.x or oss.uw.tar.gz for
  21. Unixware) into /usr/lib.  This will create the directory
  22. /usr/lib/oss.  Read /usr/lib/oss/Readme for further
  23. instructions.

  25. NOTE:  Unlike the old Voxware drivers, you must run the
  26. /usr/lib/oss/soundon utility after each reboot to activate the
  27. audio driver.

  29. NOTE:  These drivers do not support the Emu8000 synth chip found
  30. in some of the higher-end Soundblaster cards.  If your audio
  31. card has the Emu chip, you can still use these drivers to play
  32. samples, however, MIDI synthesis will not work.  A special
  33. package that supports the Emu8000 chip can be purchased at the
  34. 4Front Technologies web site.
